In Color Birding
This work will go such a long way in helping us impact the community around Philadelphia.
When T&C announced our commitment as new 1% for the Planet business partners, we set out to look for partners where our efforts could make an outsized impact, to find an opportunity where we could flex our creativity, and to identify an organization making a positive impact in our own community.
We found all of that and more with In Color Birding.

Founded in 2021, this all-volunteer organization’s aim is to make the activity of birding a positive one for the BIPOC community and their allies in and around Philadelphia. Hosting dozens of outdoor events each year, In Color Birding is certainly doing just that. After some initial talks we decided the donation of a new brand identity system would be most helpful initially.
New Identity
In our early conversations with two of ICB’s founders, Jason Hall and Nicole Seahorn, we were all aligned in wanting to avoid tropes and go beyond expected ways of embracing diversity. ICB was looking to convey the open, welcoming, optimistic vibe attendees are greeted with on any of their countless bird outings each year.
This new mark embraced the colorful world of birding with a simplified bird icon made of three intersecting shapes that come together to form a primary three-color version along with a single-color alternate.

The brand’s bright and inviting color palette is inspired by, and named for, species that can be found in the Philadelphia region—Sparrow, Dove, Bluejay, Cardinal, Goldfinch, Mallard, Oriole, and Raven.
The new identity also features an extended library of alternate marks, lockups, and badges that can be used in combination when making social content, promotional materials, and merch all feel cohesive.

Updated Site
With their new brand created, we looked to continue our partnership in year two with an updated website. Aside from updating the design and brand-level messaging, one major consideration for ICB was maintaining all of their crucial integrations for managing their events calendar, merch shop, and fundraising efforts.

Stay Tuned
Until we partner up again, we encourage you to check out In Color Birding for yourself and consider attending an outing or supporting them in any way you can.
